Harvesters Men’s Weekend in Glasgow 6 to 8 June

Thanks, ladies, for encouraging your menfolk to come along last year. We had a blast! - friendly craic, excellent meals, good worship led by Tony Bartlett and Chris McCrosson, stimulating plenaries with Fr Jim McManus, further fascinating and often humorous input from Fr Richard Reid, Charles Whitehead and Fr Keith Herrera. We also enjoyed a variety of workshops, including one on being ecumenical in Scotland today led by Colin Symes of Community Church Edinburgh. And let’s not forget the bar! All in all, it was a great time for men to be rubbing shoulders with other men.

This year we will be back at Scotus College in Bearsden for further relaxation, fellowship and spiritual stimulation. The speakers this year will be:

Charles Whitehead - a layman with a business background, founder member of Harvesters and a sought-after speaker at Catholic conferences across the globe. Charles served for two terms as the Chairman of International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services in Rome. He is involved with “Good News”, the magazine for Catholic Charismatic Renewal. He is married to Sue, who is an Anglican, and is very active in ecumenical circles in the UK and abroad. Charles has been honoured with a papal knighthood, but won’t thank me for mentioning that!

Rev Kenny Borthwick – minister of Holy Trinity Parish Church in SW Edinburgh. Kenny hails originally from Glasgow, heard the call to become a Church of Scotland minister and embarked on parish work across the country, notably in Thurso. He now operates in a city housing estate. He is the Chairman of CLAN Gathering, CLAN standing for Christians Linked Across the Nation. This is a large and growing network of Christians from about 600 Scottish churches who holiday together every June in St Andrews. Some would say Kenny is the most significant Church of Scotland speaker around at the present time.

Furthermore, at least two priests will be joining us: Fr Keith Herrera from Aberdeen and Fr Stef Park from Edinburgh. There will also be a variety of workshops on offer. The Weekend starts late on the Friday afternoon and goes through till about 4pm on the Sunday.

Early booking is advised if you want to be sure of a bed on the premises. On the other hand, it will be easy to attend on a non-residential basis too – so if you live in or near Glasgow you may wish to take advantage of this possibility.

Residential rate: £105. Non-residential rate: £55.

To book, email Mike Jordan or ring him on 0141 644 4655.
