In The Times May 9, 2007 we have just read:
"Blair aims to foster interfaith dialogue after leaving No 10
Tony Blair intends to create a global foundation to foster 'greater understanding' between the three 'Abrahamic faiths' of Christianity, Judaism and Islam after he leaves Downing Street."
Tell you what: in this little land of ours called Scotland we still need to foster greater understanding between Catholic Christians and Protestant ones. That will be something! And it is with this in mind that I am writing to you - to invite you to consider who in your friendship circle may like to attend this Catholic men's weekend, a first in Scotland, and moreover a weekend that will be open to Protestants - eg the likes of myself will be there. The people behind the weekend, of whom I have the privilege of being one, are committed to Catholic-Protestant brotherliness, unity in the Body of Christ. Well, that is a welcome breath of the aroma of Christ, I hope you agree. (And even if you don't fully agree, please do pray that the Lord will be honoured there, whatever.)
So I say: God bless our PM in his project on the world stage, but may God also bless us who draw closer together as brothers in the Lord Jesus Christ across the confessional divide that is still extant in our beloved native-land of Scotland.
The website to go to for further details is http://www.harvesters.org.uk/ You can download a brochure / booking form there - just click on Scottish Men's Weekend.
As can be inferred there, this will be a gently charismatic weekend but will be very inclusive of men of various Catholic spiritualities as well as of men from other Christian traditions. Do encourage friends to come, for this men's weekend will be a significant step in building bridges between our several Churches / denominations in Scotland. May the Lord use this event to help heal our land.
Guests can expect a great line-up of speakers, fine musicians, good workshops, social times in our in-house pub - all in all, the prospect of a thoroughly enjoyable, relaxing time away in the company of other men who want to grow in their faith and in their service to all back home.
If you need hard copies of the brochures or posters or wish to ask about booking up, please get in touch with Archie Minto whose details are at the foot of the back panel of the e-brochure. For your easy reference here, his phone no is 0131 662 6818 - that being the office no of his Company Forbes Minto. His email is archie@harvesters.org.uk or archie@harvesters.org.uk.
We look forward to being of further service to you and to seeing as many friends in Glasgow as possible. A warm welcome awaits.
Your brother in Christ
