The NST of Scotland host another day for leaders and core groups. In their role of supporting leadership in renewal this was the third such day. The clarion call of His holiness Pope John Paul, “to launch out into the deep” has been the drive behind these days.
Prayer Group members from all over Scotland gathered in the premises of the Risen Christ Community in Glasgow to hear Tom Mullen Leader of the NST speak on the theme, “Back to Basics”. I had been felt that this was necessary if Charismatic Prayer Groups were to be “schools of prayer”. Unlike some days the whole of the morning session was given over to praise and listening what the Word had to say to leaders and it was a truly blessed time. The call was to be bold, unafraid and light in the darkness.
The afternoon session had been prepared by Tom and a team from Edinburgh Diocese calling the leaders and core groups to look at their role within their groups. This was presented as ten commandments for prayer group members and another ten for leaders. The presentation helped those present to evaluate their level of preparation, personal prayer, commitment and so on. It will surely assist those present to re-examine their priorities and encourage them to strive forward empowered by the Spirit of God.
Lengthy prayer ministry of which most people took advantage followed this session. The refreshed audience were then given an update on how the Scottish Charismatic Renewal web site was progressing. The team from Dundee led this session. The web site is not just a list of groups and information about renewal but has built in the opportunity for prayer requests, which then will be forwarded, to every group across the country. Steve described it as a web of prayer across the nation, “better then the blanket of sin” he added.
Referring to two passages from Matthew’s Gospel, 14: 22-33 and 9 :18-26, he asked those present to reflect on when they were asked to be “water walking” Christians. The other passage he pointed out showed us the importance of reaching out and touching the Lord. The woman with the haemorrhage took hold of the lord’s garment. She fastened on to her salvation; her healing her redemption. It is important that we encourage people to connect with Jesus. This is done by witness.
Those present were asked to write down a short witness which can be posted on each page of the web site. Gerry McLaughlin gave his witness as an example as how the Lord helped him to be a “water walking Christian.
The leaders of Scotalnd left refreshed, empowered and ready to do alittle water walking.
